erectile dysfunction drugs

Tadalafil sale

Tablets: 5 mg, 10mg and 20 mg.

STORAGE
Tablets should be kept at room temperature between 15-30 C (59-86 F).

PRESCRIBED FOR
Tadalafil is used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, or impotence.

DOSAGE
The recommended initial dose of Tadalafil is 10 mg per day, which have to be taken orally before sexual activity. This prescribed amount is a usual daily dose for the majority of men. This dose can be increased up to 20 mg or decreased to 5 mg per day depending on the feedback or side effects. The maximal duration of the Tadalafil's effect is 36 hours. Patients who take medicines extending the level of Tadalafil in the blood shouldn't surpass a total dose of 10 mg in 72 hours (See “DRUG INTERACTIONS”). As food doesn't influence on absorption of Tadalafil from the intestine the drug can be taken while eating as well as on an empty stomach.

DRUG INTERACTIONS
The following medicines can diminish the ability of the organism to destroy and eliminate Tadalafil: erythromycin, alternative tadalafil
(Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), indinavir (Crixivan) and ritonavir (Norvir). Hence these medications can heighten the level of Tadalafil in the blood. If these medicines have to be taken simultaneously with Tadalafil, its dose has to be reduced to avoid side effects, which can be provoked with high level of Tadalafil in the blood. When being taken simultaneously with nitrates, such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate (Isordil), isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, Ismo, Monoket), nitroglycerin (Nitro-Dur, Transderm-Nitro), which are usually prescribed for treatment of heart pain (angina), Tadalafil strengthens heart rate and lowers blood pressure. If the patient takes nitrates for angina, Tadalafil can become a reason of heart pain or perhaps even a heart attack as a result of discount generic cialis
of heart rate and lowering of blood pressure. So it's highly recommended not to take Tadalafil together with nitrates. Tadalafil can also heighten the blood pressure as it lessens effects of some alpha-blocking medicines, such as terazosin (Hytrin), which are principally used for treatment of high blood pressure or increment of the prostate. The patients, who take the alpha-blockers, have to take the stable dose of these drugs before starting to take Tadalafil. In these cases at the initial stage the lowest doses of Tadalafil should be taken. In cases of taking Tadalafil, the alpha-blockers should be taken beginning with the lowest dose. As Tadalafil like alcohol lower blood pressure it's highly recommended not to mix these substances, because as a result of such mixing there can be dizziness, headaches and increased heart rate.

The drug isn't approved for usage by women.

NURSING MOTHERS
Herbal cure for erectile dysfunction mothers were not testing for taking Tadalafil.

Digression to history of Cialis

erectile dysfunction drugs

Before talking about the Cialis's case history it's necessary to remember the famous Pfizer's medication Viagra. After on the 27th of March 1998 The U. S. Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra, this tadalafil soft tab
was a success, and just for the first year of marketing Pfizer sold medicines, total cost of which overreached one billion dollars. Cialis generic online purchasing tadalafil
for Pfizer the situation was altered significantly after the FDA authorized Levitra on the 19th of August, 2003 and Cialis on the 21st of November, 2003 too. In 1993 the pharmaceutical company Icos started to examine a PDE5 enzyme inhibitor called IC351 as it was softtabs tadalafil
the process through which the erectile dysfunction medicines affected. In 1994 during clinical researches of some cardiac medication Pfizer's researches descried the sildenafil citrate, a white crystal powder, which was a part of the medicine, caused the probationers, taking part in the researches, to have erections as it blocked the enzyme that was responsible for the production of the chemical substation causing erection, tadalafil
thus erectile function of the penis for some time.

Despite the fact that the investigators were not attempting the chemical mix IC351 for erectile dysfunction therapy, the mixture appeared to have an accompanying effect that could possibly cost millions or even billions of dollars. In 1994 at the nearest opportunity Icos got the exclusive right to IC351, and during 1995 the medical researches of the first phase were taking place. In 1997 the second phase of the medical studies was started and for the first time Icos tested its medicine on patients with erectile dysfunction. The second phase continued for about two years and when it was over the third phase was commenced.

In 1998 ICOS Corporation and Eli Lilly & Company decided exploiting the preparation for erectile dysfunction for financial profit and in two years they registered a new medicine application with the U.S. FDA for IC351; they made a decision to name the medicine Cialis this time though. In May of 2002, Icos and Eli Lilly & Company informed the American Urological Association that the researches carried out in the third phase showed that Cialis's effect lasted for about 36 hours. In a year U.S. FDA approved Cialis. In comparison with Viagra Cialis has one essential advantage. The matter is that the half life of Tadalafil (Cialis), is 17.5 hours so this medicine works up to 36 hours, even if there is still about a quarter of the absorbed dose in the body by that time. As to Sildenafil (Viagra), its half life is just 4 hours.
In 2006 Eli Lilly bought ICOS Corporation for $2.1 billion dollars.

Three Words to Avoid in Emails

erectile dysfunction

MailChimp.com identifies three innocent words not to use in an email subject line.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 2, 2007 — MailChimp conducted a study of its customers' email campaigns and found that some of the most harmless words can spell disaster when included in email subject lines. Because of bulging inboxes and an endless torrent of spam, the study found that readers treat new emails as guilty until proven innocent. The study concluded that if an email marketer wants their emails to get read, both by friends and business contacts, there are a few words that a marketer would be well served to avoid.

Based on the results of this study, MailChimp has created a list of the top 3 words to avoid in a subject line based on analysis of over 200 million emails:

Help
Never put the word “help” in the subject title. It may be like a crime in progress where passer-bys keep on walking, or maybe most readers have just reached their respective capacity to “help”, but most readers do not respond to this word. The reluctance to open “help” messages may also stem from well-known scams asking for assistance. The most common source for these scams is Nigeria. You can read more about email scams in the New York Times.

% off
While it may be counterintuitive, the stronger the commercial pitch in the subject line, the less likely it's going to be read. Consumers have had to become savvy in navigating their email inbox - as soon as an email smells like a sleazy offer, it's zapped with the delete button.

Reminder
Always avoid using the word “reminder” in the subject line. If a marketer needs to send out a reminder, MailChimp recommends avoiding the word “reminder” and, instead, communicate in the subject line that there is useful information inside that the reader is going to want. Analogous to “reminder” is repeating the same subject line for a particular event and sending out several emails in advance. The first email may get read, but after that it's splitsville.

The three innocuous words above are joining the rank of other all-too-popular spammy words like: Free, Sex, Cialis, etc. Not only will an email not get read if the subject line or body is peppered with these spam words, odds are it won't even get to the reader. And getting an HTML email to the targeted inbox has become even more of a challenge, thanks to firewalls and spam filters. The net result is an obliterated email that never gets to the intended recipient.

By avoiding the three words mentioned above, email marketers should be more successful in getting their intended audience to open their emails.

Online Pharmacy Cracks Down on Fraud and Underage Consumers

erectile dysfunction

Fraud and underage consumers have always posed a problem when seeking online medications. It seems anyone can order medications online without verifying their age and their identity. Accessrx, an online pharmacy, makes it mandatory for each customer to be verified and validated before their order is processed.

Tempe, AZ (PRWEB) October 3, 2007 — Accessrx.com, the web's leading online pharmacy since 1999, has just introduced Secure Medical's innovative technology to process their orders. Once an order is placed online, the real work is done behind the scenes to ensure safety, security, and confidentiality.

For customers who are shopping online for their medications, these innovations also mean more than reduced fraud, protection against identity theft and lower priced prescriptions. Accessrx.com provides assurance that only licensed American doctors and licensed American pharmacies are able to ship FDA approved medications. As a consumer, it is important to look for an online pharmacy that does not sell any controlled and/or generic pills. One example of a violation would be the sale of generic Viagra. The generic form of Viagra is in violation of U.S. patent law, including the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The crackdown of online pharmacies that are illegally selling and importing non-FDA approved Viagra is something that Pfizer, the manufacturer of Viagra, monitors with great concern. Learn more about accessrx's erectile dysfunction product guarantee.

Each order placed by either phone, or web will receive a comprehensive cross-check which verifies the customer's date of birth, address, zip code, and other relevant information.

“A cross-check is a real time bulk citrate powder tadalafil
process that can quickly verify a customer's age ,” says accessrx.com chief operating officer, Joel Korsunsky. “If Secure Medical concludes that the age does not match, we then request the customer to fax in their ID, or the order itself will be cancelled.”

Secure Medical is the online processing company that utilizes a real time verification service on e-script websites.

“So far in 2007, we have been able to identify and reduce incidents of fraud by 50% using this resource,” said C.O.O Joel Korsunsky.

Typically, a person using a stolen credit card gets caught in one of the many verification steps employed by Secure Medical. Another important advantage for the consumer is what your on line seller is doing to protect your personal information including credit card data. Secure Medical is PCI certified for maximum assurance in credit card storage information. Are you aware that over 155 Million records have been tadalafil guenstig
in the United States, since February 2005?

In a recent survey conducted by accessrx.com which asked, “What convinced you to order with us (2,838 answers)?” The #1 reason for ordering was convenience, followed by security.

“When I want to buy Viagra online, I look for a website that has a telephone number, is located in the USA, ships FDA approved medications, and has a secure ordering process,” said Jim K., customer of accessrx.com.

These results were followed by other preferences such as privacy, product, price, and service. Customers appreciate the convenience and privacy of ordering genuine prescription medication, as an alternative to going to their local pharmacy, which in the end, are factors higher rated than the concern about price itself.

About accessrx.com:
Accessrx is an online pharmacy where consumers can purchase; Viagra, cialis, levitra, chantix, propecia, and other leading lifestyle medications. News - Viagra rival approved in US

erectile dysfunction

The United States Government has approved the sale of a new drug expected to raise the stakes in the male impotence market.

Levitra, the first market rival to the hugely acquisto tadalafil
Viagra, is being manufactured by the German firm, Bayer AG, and marketed by the British firm Tadalafil and generic
(GSK) as an alternative oral therapy for erectile 2004 cialis daily discount mar statistics
.

Since its appearance in 1998, sales of Pfizer’s Viagra have risen to nearly $2bn a year.

Both pills work in the same manner and doctors warn that both can have serious side effects, especially for men with heart problems.

A third anti-impotence pill, Cialis, is expected to reach the US market later this year.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Levitra, an orange pill compared to Viagra’s blue, based on studies showing that men were on average five times more likely to achieve an erection suitable for intercourse when taking the pill compared with those given a dummy medicine.

Researchers reported that studies of several thousand men showed that Viagra helped more than 70% improve their
erections.

As well as the warnings to men with heart conditions, the FDA said Levitra was not for patients with who had suffered a recent heart attack or stroke who have very low blood pressure or uncontrolled high blood pressure.

For otherwise healthy men, Levitra’s main side effects
were headache, flushing and a stuffy nose and sometimes dizziness.

Lawson Macartney, head of strategic management of GlaxoSmithKline’s cardiovascular, metabolic and urology drugs, said: “We know, from potenzmittel tadalafil
market research, that the
market is ready for new options”.

GSK expects Levitra to be available in September.

News - Fake obesity drugs are discovered

erectile dysfunction

andrologia tadalafil
h of a counterfeit obesity drug has been recalled by the UK’s medicines watchdog.

The Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said it was asking for the return of batch number 65542 of counterfeit Reductil 15mg.

The drugs were discovered within the UK supply chain, the second such discovery in recent days.

Last week, counterfeit Cialis capsules, used to treat erectile dysfunction, were also discovered.

Prior to that, the last discovery of counterfeit drugs in the UK supply chain was in 1994.

However, the leading drug company Pfizer recently warned of the dangers of fake drugs entering the legitimate system.

It said this could happen because of “parallel packaging” - where drugs made in one country are repackaged for another.

Concerns

The MHRA said that initial tests on the fake Reductil tablets did not indicate that it posed an immediate risk to patients.

It advised anyone who had the product with the batch number 65542 anywhere on the pack should return it to where it was obtained.

Professor Kent Woods, chief executive of the MHRA, said: “Although the quality of counterfeit medicines cannot be guaranteed, there is no indication from testing
of the counterfeit product that it poses an immediate risk to patients.

“If patients have any concerns about possible side effects they should discuss them with their doctor.”

The MHRA said that no batches manufactured and distributed by Abbott Cheap tadalafil softtabs
Ltd, the licence holder of the authentic Reductil tablets, were affected by this recall and there was no concern with the Abbott product.

David Pruce, Director of Practice and Quality Cialis generic softabs wholesale
at the Royal Erectile dysfunction help
Society of Great Britain, said: “We know that counterfeit medicines are a world-wide problem but prior to the identification of these two products, counterfeiting in the UK had been a rare occurrence.

“The society has been working with the MHRA through our team of Inspectors and we ask cialis dysfunction erectile levitra viagra
s to co-operate with the MHRA’s investigation and to be alert for counterfeit medicines.”

He added: “Patients are advised to contact their doctor or pharmacist in the event of any concern.”

News - Fake drugs find leads to recall

erectile dysfunction

The UK’s medicines watchdog is recalling a batch of a cholesterol-lowering drug after fake tablets were discovered.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), in conjunction with Pfizer, is recalling packs of Lipitor 20mg tablets.

Only those bearing the batch number 004405K1 are affected.

The MHRA said patients were not at any immediate risk from the fake drugs, which should be returned to chemists.

Patients will then be given new supplies of the prescription-only drug.

Fake tablets can be identified because they do not come in sealed packets in which the genuine drug is provided.

Tip-off

Pfizer said hundreds of batch numbers were released each year, and the recall only applied to this one.

There were around three million prescriptions for Lipitor issued in 2004.

Erectile dysfunction remedy packets of counterfeit Lipitor have so far been discovered after a tip-off from customs officers in Rotterdam, Holland.

It is the third time since the beginning of 2004 that fake drugs have entered the generic cialis tadalafil price comparison
supply chain in the UK.

Last year, counterfeit batches of Cialis, used to treat impotence, and Reductil, used to treat obesity, were discovered.

Nimo Ahmed, head of intelligence at the MHRA, said: “It is the vigilance of the MHRA that has led us to identify the counterfeit Lipitor and recall this product.

“Although the quality of counterfeit medicines cannot be guaranteed, our testing of the counterfeit product indicates that there is no immediate risk to patients. If patients have any concerns about possible side-effects they should discuss them with their doctor.”

Pfizer called for more effort to be made by authorities in the UK and Europe to ensure the safety of medicines

Barcode

Kate Lloyd, medical director of Pfizer UK, said: “Patient safety is our top concern and we are seriously alarmed at the discovery of counterfeit medicine in the UK.

“Patient safety is at risk if counterfeit products can easily be introduced into the supply chain through cross-border trade, as patients will not gain the benefits their doctor intended when selecting their medicine.”

She said measures including outlawing the repackaging of original drug tadalafil
medicines, supporting the introduction of tamper-resistant medicine packaging, and introducing a standardised European barcode for medicines could all help to protect medicine supplies.

However, Richard Freudenberg, of the British Association of European Pharmaceutical Distributors, told the BBC News website it was disingenuous of Pfizer to associate counterfeits with parallel distribution.

He said tadalafil cialis from india or repackaging undertaken by parallel distributors was carried out under strict guidelines.

“The impression left by Pfizer UK’s medical director is that parallel distribution of medicines in Europe is thoroughly flawed and a soft target for cialis levitra sildenafil tadalafil vardenafil viagra
to introduce their illegal and dangerous products into the market.

“In fact, there has never been a single confirmed case in the UK of a counterfeit medicine reaching a patient as parallel distribution, ever.

Mr Freudenberg said the current fakes were a replica of the pack distributed by Pfizer in the UK.

“Counterfeit medicines in Europe remain remarkably rare.

“Parallel distributors, however, are concerned about the future possibility of their entering the supply chain, and would be pleased to discuss with manufacturers available means to prevent this happening.”

Professor Peter Weissberg, Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation (BHF), said: “This is not an issue that should cause any worry for patients taking Lipitor.

“We would urge any patients who have this particular batch number on their packet to follow the MHRA’s advice and return the product to where they obtained it and seek a replacement of the genuine drug.”

News - Celebrity Health - Sir Stirling Moss

erectile dysfunction

In a series on celebrities and their health, the BBC News website talks to racing driver Sir Stirling Moss about his erectile drugs tadalafil
.

Sir Stirling, 76, started racing at the age of 18 and soon made his name in Formula One, Two, Three and hill climbs, sports and touring car races as well as rallies and world speed record events.

An accident at the Goodwood track in 1962 left him partially paralysed for six months and ended his Grand Prix career, although he continued to race historic cars.

Sir Stirling, a spokesman for SortED in 10, the education campaign sponsored by drug’s manaufacturers Bayer, (makers of Levitra) was given an OBE in 1959 and knighted in 2000.

HOW DID YOU FIRST REALISE SOMETHING WAS WRONG?

I have had this problem twice. The first time was after I had a crash in 1962 and was in a coma for four weeks.

Men worry that admitting they have the problem will reflect on their masculinity, but it has nothing to do with masculinity
Sir Stirling Moss

I had a very attractive nurse and I turned to her and said, ‘I would love to do something about this but I can’t’.

Talking to her about it helped me through it.

The second time was when my prostate was taken out when I had cancer at 70. They cut it out and said I might have a problem with an erection.

My wife, Susie, and I are very close though and we fought the problem together.

HOW DID YOU GET DIAGNOSED?

I was diagnosed in a clinic in America, the Mayo Clinic, when I went for a complete check-up.

They found I had prostate cancer.

They took 12 tissue samples and four of them were cancerous.

WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION TO THE Cialis dysfunction erectile levitra revatio
?

I said I wanted the cancer out. They gave me three options, but I said I just wanted an operation and I wanted it straight away.

I think if you have cancer and they can cut it out then do it.

I just felt ‘lets get rid of it’.

WHAT WAS YOUR TREATMENT?

My prostate was removed. Then I just took it easy.

As for the erectile dysfunction when I got that far ahead, because I did not realise straight away that there was a problem, I said to the doctor that I had a problem and he told me the options.

The 90 cialis generic
drug Viagra did not help me and I found an alternative called Cialis did not have very quick results, but a drug called Levitra suited my lifestyle. I took it and within 15 minutes I could be ‘in action’.

If you take one of these drugs you do not get an erection immediately.

HOW DID YOU FEEL DURING TREATMENT?

When I was in hospital getting treated for the prostate cancer I felt knocked out - it took quite a lot out of me.

This might have had something to do with the fact I had just turned 70 when I found I had cancer.

With the erectile dysfunction I felt drug tadalafil
when the treatment did not work and then elated when it did.

When you are with a person you know so well and are close to you can really feel the urge (for sex) and if you have erectile dysfunction you can not do anything about it.

You can feel really amorous and really horny but if you don’t get an erection your partner will not know anything about how you are feeling.

It is amazing how many people suffer from it. I think the cure dysfunction erectile herbal should give more funding to addressing this problem.

The biggest problem is that men will not come forward. Men worry that admitting they have the problem will reflect on their masculinity, but it has nothing to do with masculinity.

One in three men suffer from this and if they have got this problem they should go to their doctor and if they have got a partner they should go with them to see the doctor. It should be a shared problem.

HOW DO YOU FEEL NOW?

Now I just feel that is a bit annoying that I have to take a pill to ‘get it up’.

It is much more exciting for it to happen naturally, which is a lovely thing.

WHAT IS YOUR MESSAGE TO OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CONDITION?

The message to anybody is go and see the doctor - they can help and do help.

If you have a partner take them with you. You have got to share it.

You can’t think it will just get better. There are a lot of things that could be the cause - things like diabetes you should get it checked out.

News - Washington diary: Body shock

erectile dysfunction

By sheer coincidence my medical issues started as soon as I landed in the US four years ago.

Only 48 hours after getting off the plane in Washington I was seized by numbing pain in my upper jaw and rushed to a smart dental clinic near the White House.

I pointed to a throbbing molar and was puzzled to find the unusually monosyllabic nurse taking an X-ray of every single tooth in my mouth with quiet and unflinching arginina tadalafil
.

She returned half an hour later with the maestro of the clinic who pinned 36 or so stamp sized X-rays on a back-lit board as if they were part of an avant-garde art project and then gave a PowerPoint presentation entitled something like “My vision for your mouth”.

“What about the tooth that hurts?” I asked innocently.

“Thas juss the beginning,” said Dr Harrison, a southern gent with a pencil-thin moustache arching over a blindingly white smile.

“We are gonna work together for three years to get everything in perfect order! An I promise, I won’t have to see ya more than once a month.”

The health industry had officially declared me fair game, easy prey

When the doctor had exited in a swoosh of fluttering white to “work with” the next patient, the nurse leant over as if in deep confidence and added: “You are SOOO lucky to be working with Dr Harrison! He is the beeeast!”, making “best” sound like “beast”.

I never returned after my root canal operation. I chose to become a dental fugitive, hounded every six weeks by increasingly urgent letters reminding me of the doctor’s vision and my empty promises. I am certain that my mouth is on a blacklist somewhere.

Flatulent joints

Two months later the next chapter of bodily woes was opened. One day, out of the blue, without warning and for no apparent reason, my neck felt as if I had survived a garrotting.

I ventured into the hitherto unknown world of tadalafil prezzo
.

Surgeon holds a scalpel

You can run but you can’t hide from the surgeon’s knife

Dr Schweinstein X-rayed everything above my shoulders and explained to me that - among other things - I had too much gas in my joints, which is why I would soon hear a flatulent noise as he took my neck into a half nelson.

As I contemplated the notion of farting joints, the chiropractor’s fleshy hands fastened around my head, yanking it left and then right as if I was an extra in some martial arts movie. I heard the advertised noise and felt instantly better as the pain seeped away.

“Thank you, Dr Schweinstein,” I said with genuine relief and admiration for the healing profession. “That will be it then?” I added for good measure, heading for the door.

The doctor fixed me with watery blue eyes.

“Actually,” he intoned with a flat, yet authoritative voice, “this is just the prologue, you might say. What I have in mind for you is a two-year programme… a standard course of chiro-therapy to get your neck back in shape. The good news is: shouldn’t need you here more than once a week! Your insurance should cover some, if not most of it.”

The cost of this healing process to the uninsured would have been $150 a week. I wondered how the estimated 50m Americans who have no private medical insurance cope. They don’t, of course.

But they weren’t on my mind at this stage. I was planning another getaway. A fugitive from medicine… twice over.

Midlife crisis

Four months later I was reading the New York Times and my then cialis comparison generic price tadalafil
son asked me: “Dad, why are you holding the newspaper like that?”

“Like what?”

“Like that… so far!” he said and stretched his little arms straight out.

Man has his eyesight tested

Perfect vision - just in one’s dreams

I hadn’t even noticed how my reading arm had got longer and longer.

So my eyes were next. At least the optician was a “walk-in”.
No appointments, no waiting room, no dog-eared copies of last month’s Time Magazine and Yachting Monthly.

The verdict: long sighted.

“Why?” I asked the optician, whose name escapes me. “I have always had perfect vision!”

His nose crinkled and I knew I should have kept my mouth shut. No optician believes in perfect vision. It’s presumptuous and it’s not good for business.

“How old are you?” he asked.

“Forty-one,” I replied.

“Ahhhhh,” he said in a voice oozing pity, understanding and wisdom all coated in glee. “It’s the age.”

And with those three words my midlife crisis started.

The healthcare industry had officially declared me fair game, easy prey, a rich seam of never-ending profits.

I had hit rock bottom. What could be next?

I left the opticians and stumbled, diminished, into the glare of a Washington summer’s day.

I walked down the road fingering my new glasses - frames so sleek, lenses so petite they were almost invisible - almost - when I felt my Blackberry buzz to life in my trouser pocket.

I put on my new specs clumsily, half enjoying this pompous new prop, and allowed them to slide professorially to the tip of my nose. I glanced down at the tiny screen. It was a joy to see so clearly.

An e-mail flashed up from someone called Kevin. I assumed it was work and clicked to open.

“Need Viagra, Cialis, Levitra?” Kevin asked. “We can help! You can perform!” It wasn’t the Kevin I thought it was.

Metatarsal hell

I had hit rock-bottom. What could possibly be next? A few months later I got the answer: my feet.

I have always had feet so wide they defied even the most comfy Hush Puppies. To me, Birkenstocks felt like winkle-pickers.

Victoria Beckham sits in the crowd watching the English football team play

Fellow bunion sufferer Victoria Beckham opts for sensible boots

The pain was beginning to make me hobble and I was about to learn a new word: podiatry.

My podiatrist, a tower of a man who wears tadalafil pill
orange clogs with his blue surgical jump suit, eased me into the wonderful world of podiatry.

“No surgery, yet, Matt. Foot surgery is a serious business… we’ll give you some orthotics first.”

These specially moulded soles were the most expensive shoes I have ever bought and they didn’t work. Six months later the pain was so bad that I had to go under the knife.

I would like to say that I have joined the hallowed order of the broken metatarsal, just in time for the World Cup.

Rooney, Beckham, Owen, Frei… even if I was nursing MY metatarsal on the sofa watching them test theirs on the pitch. But unfortunately I shared my pain with the other Beckham, not David, Victoria.

And it wasn’t the metatarsal per se… it was metatarsal-related. I am talking about an excrescence of the bone resulting in a serious realignment of the toes. I am talking about a… bunion.

Posh Spice has one, a whopper that sticks out of her golden lace thong sandals like a raw pink golf ball. And I have two. One on each foot.

Hobbling hordes

“Bunion?” Isn’t that what women get for wearing the wrong shoes?” a friend asked. True.

About 50% of American women get bunions, a statistic that didn’t make me feel any better. I owe mine to my mother. Yes, they are hereditary and no, I have never worn stilettos.

“Bunion?” I asked the doctor. “Is there no fancier word? Something in Latin perhaps. Something complicated, more interesting?”

“Well, bunion is the ancient Greek word for turnip. Does that help?” the doctor with the orange clogs asked. (*)

No, it didn’t.

The worst thing is that the surgery necessary to remove a “turnip” is long, complicated, painful and could end in failure.

It involves hobbling around for eight weeks with a surgical boot that could have been invented by a workshop of medieval torturers on attachment to the Ministry of Funny Walks.

I hit my low point last week. I was waiting in the surgery for my post operation check-up.

I was surrounded by middle-aged women wearing the same boot. My fellow patients. The hobbling regiment of hop-alongs.

A lady with a magenta rinse turned to me and said: “Honey, I feel so sorry for you. You are the wrong age and the wrong gender to have a bunionectomy!”

She recommended I check out an internet talk show called Life Beyond Bunions. I didn’t know whether to feel flattered or flattened.

*bunion: medical condition known as hallux valgus. Origin early 18th century, unknown origin, perhaps Old French buignon, from buigne, bump on the head (Oxford English Dictionary)
